I control breeding on the ranch to ensure babies are born in cooler months. In some areas of the country that is not necessary but, in Texas, we can still be very hot in early October and get hot as early as April.
Not all breedings take and it takes a while for a dam to ‘show’.
The gestation period for llamas is eleven and one-half months, 350 days.
One cria due this fall has arrived safe and sound. I still await the arrival of the other.
Below are the photos of Indian Summer, a male, born October 22, 2009 out of Hot Rod and Summer Breeze.
